Blog: Understanding the Information Reformation...

The term 'blog' is short for 'Web log', an online site with time-dated postings, maintained by one or more posters, that features links and commentary. That's the most basic definition, but it is like saying a car is a means of transportation featuring four wheels. In Blog, syndicated radio talk show host and best-selling author Hugh Hewitt helps you catch up with and get ahead of this phenomenon. If you doubt the influence blogs have in society, think again. Better yet, just ask Senator Trent Lott regarding his comments at Strom Thurmond's birthday celebration. Ask New York Times editor in chief Howell Raines about reporter Jayson Blair's fabricated stories. Ask Dan Rather and CBS about President Bush's National Guard documents faxed from a Texas Kinko's. Or ask John Kerry about his battle with Swift Boat veterans. All of these major stories were fully covered by the mainstream media only after their exposure in the blogosphere.Until now no influential blogger has written a definitive book about this phenomenon, but in Blog, Hugh Hewitt helps you position yourself and your organization at the forefront of this information reformation. 1. It was hard to believe less than a week had passed since my husband Hugh had watched Xavier Bishop seduce me in the back of Willa’s gallery…since I’d read Willa’s secret blog and discovered she was in love with Hugh…since he’d told me he still loved Xavier’s wife, Diana. What was even harder to believe was the passion with which Hugh and I had made love, just a few hours ago. Or the feeling of deep calm that enveloped me just before I opened my eyes.... It was the calm before the storm. What happens when everything you believe about love, sex, and fidelity is turned on its head? When American artist Georgia Daniels marries handsome, sexy lawyer Hugh Fraser and moves to the other side of the world with him, the fairy tale she thought she was buying into soon transforms into a complex web of secrets and uncertainty. After discovering Hugh is not the shy, innocent guy she thought he was, she convinces him to take her to the exclusive club he used to frequent with the charismatic Xavier Bishop and his mysterious wife, Diana. She tells herself it’s because she wants to erase the ghost of Diana from their relationship and prove her fidelity to Hugh, but if that’s the case, why does Xavier’s lupine smile, velvet voice, and heady scent invade her senses every time she closes her eyes? The Butterfly series is no traditional formulaic romance. The themes are erotic, edgy, and challenging, and the characters make their own rules around combining love, sex, and fidelity in ways that are modern, unorthodox, and ultimately empowering. The Butterfly story unfolds over the course of four novels. This is book 2 in the series. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Violet Gregory. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/203926/bk_acx0_203926_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Jake Needham is Asia’s most stylish and atmospheric writer of crime fiction.” (The Singapore Straits Times)“Needham writes so you can smell the spicy street food mingling with the traffic jams, the sweat, and the garbage.” (Libris Reviews)The first bomb cracked the Hilton like an egg. The second gutted the lobby of the Marriott. And the third peeled the front off of the Grand Hyatt. Three massive explosions, all at American hotels in the heart of the city, and all within a few horrifying seconds. Hundreds are dead and thousands are injured. Singapore is bleeding.Inspector Samuel Tay is a senior inspector in the Special Investigation Section of Singapore CID, but he is frozen out of the investigation from the beginning. He has some serious enemies in Singapore’s Internal Security Department and he has even more enemies at the American embassy, so Tay is assigned routine cases while his colleagues join with the CIA and the FBI in a feverish search for the bombers.Three days after the explosions, the smell of death still sticky in the city’s air, Tay is sent to a run-down apartment near the Malaysian border where two children have found the body of a Caucasian male with a broken neck. Tay feels an immediate connection with the dead man, although he doesn’t think he has seen him before. As Tay searches the dead man’s past for clues to who he was and who his killer might have been, Tay’s own past begins to give up its secrets. A long-dead father he can barely remember reaches out of the grave to point to the truth about both the murdered man and the bombings. And the horror of Singapore’s destruction becomes a personal horror for Samuel Tay. Although a novel of fiction, it is based upon real incidents that occurred during that time period. Actual locales in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island are utilized. The audiobook contains love, death, passion, violence, and is interspersed throughout with history of the time period. It centers around two main characters who work together in the 120th police precinct. The prominent character is Lieutenant A. and his driver Charlie. During their times together, Lt. A goes back into his past and describes for Charlie some of the most horrific incidents that he had encountered when he was a young officer during the 1960s and 1970s. Charlie begins to have a horrid affair with a woman he meets while on patrol and eventually falls in love with her. He is married and, eventually, his wife finds out. Charlie begins to feel torn between his wife and his girlfriend and confides in Lt. A with his problem. He begins to rely on Lt. A to help him with his problem. The stories that Lt. A recounts for him help take Charlie's mind off his pressing problems with his ongoing affair. The pressure of the affair begins to have a negative effect on Charlie, especially after his wife finds out and, she too, begins an affair in the office where she works. Charlie finally realizes that he does not want to lose his wife and finally confesses everything to Lt. A, who comes up with a solution that just might help Charlie with his problem. Merritt, with just a dash of H. P. Lovecraft. Arthur Leo Zagat graduated from Fordham University Law School in what ended up being a very bad year - 1929. Thanks to the stock market crash and the resulting depression, he, like his contemporary Erle Stanley Garner, never practiced law. Instead, Zagat teamed up with another struggling young attorney, Nate Schachner, collaborating on a raft of science fiction and fantasy yarns for Wonder Stories and similar pulps. Striking off on his own, Zagat soon established himself as a versatile writer. His skills and reputation grew, and by the mid-1930s, he cracked the top pulp magazine, Argosy, producing a string of serialized fantasy novels that were nothing like anything Zagat had ever penned previously. Drink We Deep was the first of these. It ran in six parts, beginning with the July 31, 1937 Argosy. It's the eerie account of brave archeologist and paleontologist Hugh Lambert, and the weirdness he discovered in pastoral upstate New York. We don't want to give away any story secrets, so we'll just quote the blurb adorning Drink We Deep's Fantastic Novels reappearance: Beneath the timeless rocks of the Heiderbergs - slumbering below Lake Wankooka's unfathomed waters - lies the seed of Earth conflict. For there lives the strange and troubled race of other worldlings, waiting, always waiting, for the hour of deliverance.... And on the Earth's surface, one man feels in his blood an irresistible summons that calls him to their side... We know little about the inspiration for this fearful fantasy. Except this: "My daughter's summer camp gave me the setting and the inspiration for Drink We Deep," Zagat once revealed. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Steve Marvel. How do new ideas emerge in a cynical, risk-averse world? Where does inspiration come from? Freedom Is Blogging in Your Underwear

This is a book about freedom. Specifically the personal freedom I discovered from the wonderful world of blogging, the freedom I hope everybody will eventually discover for themselves. The freedom that, I believe, will permanently and irrevocably change the world for the better. Having a blog, a voice, having my own media, utterly changed my life. Suddenly my career as a cartoonist wasn't dependent on other people: 'The Gatekeepers'-publishers, editors, Hollywood executives, etc., etc. Sud denly I had direct contact with my audience. They had direct contact with me. I could just do my thing, without having to wait for some body else to give me the 'green light.' I didn't have to wait around for somebody else to deem me 'worthy.' This was the freedom I spent most of my adult life searching for, the same freedom I believe we're ALL searching for, in one way or another. Careerwise, blogging gave me everything. Even in the early days, the ben efits of blogging were so glaringly obvious to me, I couldn't understand why more people weren't doing it. Ten years later, I still can't. So I decided to write a book about it; maybe I can help other people find this freedom, too. -Hugh
